MEET.... Arnaz Booker

Arnaz Booker, the main character in the College Love 101 series, dropped by the Press Box to discuss life and love with Author K.T. Bishop in 1991.
K.T.: Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule.
Arnaz: Not a problem. Always glad to talk with my role model.
K.T.: Tell us a little about yourself.
Arnaz: I am a senior at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, majoring in Journalism. By the way, Stillman's a real college, its not Hillman from the Cosby Show and A Different World. I work part-time at the Tuscaloosa News and live at home with my mother.
K.T.: Seems that you're living the life of a typical college student.
Arnaz: My life is far from perfect.
K.T.: In what way?
Arnaz: I don't like discussing my family business with non-relatives, but I just found out my father's alive.
K.T.: I bet that sucks.
Arnaz: (rolls his eyes). No kidding. It's just something I have to deal with, I guess. Life's never easy, you know. On top of trying to graduate with honors, find a job and a long-distance relationship.
K.T.: Okay, I see how this is making you uncomfortable. Let's change the subject: tell me about your girlfriend.
Arnaz (face lights up): Isis Rogers, the most beautiful woman I ever seen. When I first laid eyes on her at that pre-med program at Fisk University two years ago in Nashville, I burned my little black book. There was no other woman that came close in comparison. I pursued Isis until she became mine. She's brillant and a future doctor who attends Xavier University in New Orleans.
K.T: A long-distance relationship that works. Glad it worked for someone.
Arnaz: It's not easy. We only see other for holidays and parts of the summer because of our busy schedules. If I had to go back in time, I'd do the same thing. Isis is worthy of pursuing. Besides, it wouldn't hurt to have a doctor around to take care of you.
K.T.: If you could spend a day with someone living or dead, who would it be?
Arnaz: Martin Luther King because the way he fought for blacks to be equal with whites. I've heard so much about him from my mother, who saw him in Birmingham, and met members of the King family.
K.T.: What's your ultimate goal?
Arnaz: Follow the path you set. Land a reporting job at a newspaper, and write a book someday. Hopefully, I'll marry Isis someday. She becomes a doctor and we live happily ever after.
K.T:Hope it works for you. Enjoyed the interview.
Arnaz (gives a half shoulder hug): I'm optimistic we can work something out. Great chatting with you as well.

I decided to go with the character interview, Jane, because I didn't get a chance to promote regularly on the blogs (They were already booked).

A kid in high school with dreams and a love that may last forever is a tough road for anyone. He definitely sounds up for the challenge and I think he'll make it. Sounds determined enough! Great interview and sounds like a terrific novel too!

I thought it was a silly idea two months ago, Ali. I decided to try another avenue of promoting, and its worked.

For years, I've felt the college love stories always get overlooked in the romance novels. Cherie, half of those romance survive!

I love how you used an interview to tell about your character. I love how he refers to M.L King. When parts of history are included I feel it makes the story more real.
I hope that the long distance relationship works out for Arnaz and Iris.
Looking forward to more!

When I wrote Curing A Cajun Cold, it was by accident. It was a free read two years ago. I enjoyed writing about the early 90's, the Clinton Administration, and a golden era.

Question to Arnaz: When you say "happily ever after", do you mean having children and coaching basketball little league or DINK (dual income, no kids)?

K.T. Bishop said...

Now, Yvonne. I am not giving away anything. You'll have to buy the book and see the happy ending.LOL.

Very nice interview! How about one from the soon-to-be doctor's viewpoint?

K.T. Bishop said...

There will be a happy ending, Stan.

Not a bad idea, Anthony. If the book keeps moving up the charts, I'll bring out Isis....
