Isis Rogers, the heroine in the College Love 101 Series, dropped by the Press Box to visit with Author K.T. Bishop before school started in 1991.
K.T.: Thank for you dropping by.
Isis (frowning): It's about time you invite a girl in here. Everything's been about Arnaz.
K.T.: Now we're on the subject, tell me about your relationship with him.
Isis: Where do I begin?
K.T. (snorts): At the beginning.
Isis: Even though we're four hours apart, we manage to make it work. We take advantage of the small amount of time we have together, like the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays and summer vacation. I think that makes us click. We're there for each other, despite trying to finish out school.
K.T.: Was it love at first sight?
Isis (sticks out her right hand): Hell no! When I first met Arnaz, I thought he was overbearing and obnoxious. I wanted nothing to do with him. He was like that fly buzzing around the picnic table at a Fourth of July Barbeque.
K.T.: What changed that?
Isis: He didn't give up and wore me down. Once I looked into his deep brown eyes, I was hypnotized. Another look at that slender body because we're about the same height didn't hurt matters either. A lot of guys get intimidated by tall women, but my Arnaz did not. He still pursued me. That's why I am in love with him. He allowed me to overcome my insecurity over being tall.
K.T.: Enough about the love affair, tell us about you.
Isis (Claps her hands): Thought you'd never ask. I am a Cajun princess who lives in New Orleans and attends homestanding Xavier University. I major in pre-medicine and planning to become a pediatrician. My family's well known in New Orleans. My dad played for the New Orleans Saints. I have a brother who plays at LSU and will be in the NFL someday.
K.T.: You and Arnaz come from different ethnic backgrounds.
Isis (giggles): You know what they say, opposites attract. Seriously, I don't flaunt my heritage in his face. I am not one of those people looking to hook up with someone because they have lineage. I'll quote one of my favorite songs from Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Someone to love me for me: “All I want is for someone to love me for who I am, not for materialistic things.” Arnaz loves me, not the money. For that, I am grateful.
K.T.: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Isis: Hopefully, married to Arnaz and starting my practice.
K.T.: Hope it works for you both.
Isis: I think it will. He'll graduate one year ahead of me and that's an advantage. We can be together when I start med school. I wouldn't mind juggling the role of a wife and med student, if we both compromise. We have to cross that bridge when the time comes.
K.T.: Thanks for your time.
Isis: Thank you for having me.
